Salisbury Solar farm

Walcha Energy is developing the Salisbury Solar Farm, a 700MW solar farm between Uralla and Walcha in the New England Tablelands, NSW. Once operational, the solar farm will generate enough electricity each year to power the equivalent of 300,000 households in NSW.

Location

The project is spread across smaller group of solar arrays either side of the Uralla to Walcha Road on the Salisbury Plains. The nearest towns to the projects are Uralla (7 km north from the project), Kentucky (4 km west) and Walcha (22 km south).

About the project

Salisbury Solar Farm is situated in the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) and a State significant development of 700MW solar and 100MW/150MWh battery energy storage.
Salisbury Solar Farm is situated in the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), a State significant development of 700MW solar and 100MW/150MWh battery energy storage.
The project is sub-divided into two stages, Salisbury East and Salisbury West, with a capacity of 350MW each. The proposed project site has been chosen with extensive consultation with the landowners, taking into account grid connection potential, minimising the areas prone to flooding or containing sensitive and natural heritage features. Incompatible land areas and woodland areas are reduced within the project sites.

The project will form a part of the Walcha Energy Project which combines solar and wind energy generation with battery storage and pumped hydro storage to provide a large, secure, reliable source of renewable energy. Once complete, the Walcha Energy Project would be generating equivalent to half the output from the two upper Hunter Valley electricity generators, representing about 15% of NSW’s electricity. The renewable energy resource of the project is in excess of 4,000MW.
